The Project in International Development

2018 - present

Project status: Ongoing

Funded by: the School of International Development

This work explores how projects, as common vehicles for arranging work for the purposes of funding, function as organising mechanisms within the aid sector. Technologies such as logframes to Gannt charts are amongst the many tools used to plan and manage development work. These all have specific histories which are often overlooked in the teaching and practice of development, but which produce a linkage to knowledge practices that are antithetical to progressive social change. This work has led to a book, The Project in International Development: Theory and Practice, to be published by Routledge in June 2023
